Recipe for Caprese Burger from Hopcott Farms

The Hopcott family have been raising beef since 1957 and their farm not only has an on-site butcher shop, but also a market and bistro. To celebrate their beef and the beginning of BBQ season, they shared with us this juicy Caprese Burger recipe. This combination of classic Caprese salad meets crave-worthy burger is one you’re going to want to eat all summer long.

Caprese Burger

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lbs lean ground beef
  • 4 burger buns
  • 1/4 cup pesto
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2–3 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 8 fresh basil leaves
  • balsamic glaze or reduction, for drizzling
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • olive oil (optional, for toasting buns)

Directions:

  1. Form the ground beef into 4 equal patties and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Grill or pan-fry until cooked to your preferred doneness.
  3. Mix pesto and mayo together to create the burger spread.
  4. Lightly toast the buns if desired.
  5. To assemble, spread pesto mayo on each bun, then layer on the cooked patty, fresh mozzarella, tomato slices, basil leaves, and finish with a generous drizzle of balsamic glaze. Top with the other half of the bun and enjoy!
