Fried Calamari with Lemon Aioli

Ingredients:

For Calamari

  • 1 lb uncooked calamari rings
  • 1 ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 Tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • Mazola® Corn Oil for frying (approx. 8 cups)
  • Chopped parsley for garnish
  • Lemon wedges to serve

For Lemon Garlic Aioli

  • ⅓ cup mayo
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • ½ lemon, juiced
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • ¼ teaspoon tabasco
  • Salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Prepare lemon aioli by combining ingredients together. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, soak calamari rings in buttermilk for 20 minutes.
  3. In a large skillet, preheat Mazola® Corn Oil to 375 F.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine flour with seasonings.
  5. Working one handful at a time, coat calamari in seasoned flour and drop it into the hot oil.
  6. Cook until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a paper-towel-lined plate.
  8. Continue until all calamari rings have been fried.
  9. Transfer to serving dish, sprinkle with parsley and serve with lemon wedges and lemon garlic aioli.
