Sepideh Yadegar is an Iranian-Canadian filmmaker based in Vancouver. She writes, directs, edits, and produces films that dig into the lives of people often left out of the spotlight. Her stories are shaped by migration, memory, and survival. She’s less interested in spectacle and more in what it costs someone to keep going when the world has already decided who they’re supposed to be.
Her debut feature, One Must Wash Eyes, won multiple awards across Canadian festivals and marked her as a filmmaker to watch. Her style is intimate but sharp. Emotional but never sentimental. She moves between fiction and documentary with the same focus—uncovering truths that live in silence.
Right now, she is developing her second feature, a mystery thriller rooted in intergenerational secrets, as well as her first feature-length documentary and a new short film. Each project is part of a bigger vision. One that asks who gets to be remembered and what stories are worth passing down.
Sepideh makes films the way some people pray. Not for answers but for understanding. Not to impress but to connect.

Which ’hood are you in?
I live in Lynn Valley, North Vancouver, close to the mountains and within reach of the vibrant Persian community here. My partner and I moved there about three and a half years ago because we’re passionate about mountain biking, and the commute across the bridge, with its intense traffic, was becoming challenging. Lynn Valley offers us the quiet, peaceful environment we enjoy.
What do you do?
I’m a film writer, director, editor, and producer, and I am deeply passionate about bringing untold stories to the screen. My work centres around ordinary people whose lives don’t typically make the headlines, those quietly navigating complex social issues or circumstances they were born into. Through filmmaking, I aim to shed light on these hidden narratives, giving a voice to people who might otherwise remain unseen. My goal is always to create films that entertain and encourage empathy, reflection, and a deeper understanding of the world we all share.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on several exciting projects. I’m developing my second feature film, a mystery thriller that explores complex characters and compelling twists. I’m also developing my first feature documentary, which I’m very passionate about because it allows me to explore real-life narratives in depth. Additionally, I’m in production on a short documentary that captures intimate stories through a focused lens.
