“A Day in the Life” with: Artist Kat Reynolds

Kat Reynolds is an award-winning, multi-hyphenate artist who was born in Nassau, Bahamas and raised in Canada after she and her family moved to Guelph, Ontario, when she was 5 years old. Describing her as ‘singing and dancing from the womb’, Kat’s parents were always extremely supportive of her dreams of being a performer and drove her to many dance classes, music lessons and community theatre rehearsals throughout her whole childhood.

When Kat learned that pursuing performance as a viable career path was possible, she decided to study theatre for her secondary education and moved to Toronto to attend The Randolph Academy. Afterward, she immediately started working professionally on stages across North America, including the Shaw Festival, the Stratford Festival, and a stint on Broadway.

She then landed in Vancouver, where she continued her career on stage, performing in several productions at The Vancouver Arts Club and also branching out to begin working on camera in episodic television and Made For TV Movies. Fascinated by the film industry, Kat then began to explore work behind the camera, directing, writing and producing several award-winning shorts. Her film education has come through working with and learning from incredible filmmakers in the Vancouver Indie Film Community, along with hands-on mentorship from artist development programs such as the VIFF Catalyst Program, GEMS Emerging TV Producer Program and Women In The Director’s Chair Career Advancement Module.

Most recently, in the film world, Kat directed a short film and social commentary thriller called ‘Gone Viral’ with The Crazy 8s Film Making Competition. And, coming up, you can catch her live on stage this summer playing Deloris in Sister Act The Musical at TUTS Vancouver.

Kat continues to pursue performance and storytelling on stage, on screen and also in front of a mic as a standup comic, always seeking to entertain, inspire and evoke complex emotions and joy from her audiences.

A screenshot of my camera role after doing an 8-page self-tape audition for a television show! (The ones with the hearts will be the takes that I use to send into casting). Over the years, I have spent COUNTLESS hours in my studio filming hundreds of self-tapes, resulting in some very fun bookings that I’m incredibly grateful for!
