Recipe for Elixir of Life by Root to Sky Kitchen

Food blogger Kelly, the creator of Root to Sky Kitchen, shared with us this delicious recipe named Elixir of Life which can be found in her upcoming book, The Vital Life Cookbook. This recipe takes the combination of well-sourced berries and fermented dairy to another level. Not only are the ingredients for this quick kefir smoothie tasty, but they all serve specific functions to heal and maintain the gut microbiome.

Recipe for Elixir of Life

Elixir of Life

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup grass-fed, plain, full-fat goat kefir
  • 1 raw pasture-raised egg yolk, white membrane string removed
  • 1 tbsp raw local honey
  • 1/2 cup local organic berries
  • 1 tbsp cold ground organic flax seed or organic chia seeds (I store my ground flax seed in the freezer to preserve its benefits)
  • 1 tsp grass-fed collagen

Optionals:

  • 1/4 cup grass-fed goat yogurt to thicken and create the swirls (or sheep or water buffalo’s, plain and full fat)
  • 1-inch piece of fresh turmeric and/or ginger
  • 1 tbsp virgin cold-pressed organic coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp pure magnesium chloride flakes
  • 1/4 tsp camu camu powder or rose powder (provides heaps of bioavailable whole food vitamin C)
  • 1 drop vanilla bean tincture

Directions:

1. If you’d like to decorate with swirls: first dollop a few spoonfuls of plain yogurt onto the sides of your serving glass to create the swirls after, and place some chopped berries at the bottom of the glass.

2. Blend all ingredients in a blender. Pour into your serving glass. If you did step 1, create a marbled swirl with the yogurt and berry mixture using your spoon. Enjoy!
