Five Minutes With: Vancouver Folk Punk Band Roots Round Up

Roots Round Up boasts a rich history in the Canadian music scene, with band members Greg Hathaway, David “Dymitri” Hanna, David Hathaway, Keith Rose, Mark Campbell, Eric Napier, and Bradford Lambert shaping their dynamic, globe-spanning sound. Formed in 1985 in East Vancouver, the band gained nationwide recognition during the late ’80s and early ’90s as one of Canada’s most dedicated and touring worldbeat dance bands. Originating from Vancouver’s hardcore punk scene, they infused their music with reggae, ska, and old-school rock ‘n’ roll influences. Original drummer Barry Taylor (1985-2021) previously played with first-generation punk bands the Young Canadians/K-Tels and Shanghai Dog. Greg and Bradford, former drummers in second-generation punk bands the Unknown Fibres and House of Commons, also performed with Shanghai Dog. Roots Round Up’s extensive tours across Canada and the Western U.S., along with numerous independent recordings like “Get Rooted,” “What We Do,” and “Syzygy,” solidified their legacy in the music scene.
