What is your channel called and what is it about?

My channel is @misseileensoo, and it’s a mix of food, lifestyle, travel, events, and supporting local businesses around the city and in British Columbia.

When did you start it? What motivated you at the beginning?

I started it when Instagram became popular during university. Originally, it was a way to connect with friends and share what we were up to. I loved that it was a personal hobby where I could express my artistic side through editing, styling, and photography. When Reels were introduced, I adapted and started creating video content as well. I was first approached by fashion brands, and over time, I gradually transitioned into the lifestyle, travel, wellness, social charity, and food space.

Who were you inspired by? Any influences?

I’m inspired by travel and storytelling. Travelling opens my eyes to new perspectives and allows me to fully immerse myself in different cultures, especially when discovering hidden gems. I’m also deeply influenced by films and shows with strong artistic direction and storytelling. Some favourites include Spirited Away, The Fall, Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, Her, Interstellar, Lost in Translation, The Wild Robot, and films by Wes Anderson. I’m especially drawn to work that blends visuals, music, and acting in a meaningful way.

How would you describe your audience?

My audience is fun, supportive, loving, and hilarious. They’re big travel and food enthusiasts, and I love that they often send me funny messages that genuinely make me laugh. I try to keep things real by sharing behind-the-scenes moments, bloopers, and more raw, unfiltered content on my stories. It makes everything feel more authentic rather than perfectly curated or scripted. I always get a good chuckle when someone sends me a funny meme, or feel excited when someone sends me a travel clip.

What is your creative process? Do you have people who work with you?

I like to map out my reels and find songs that fit the theme or the content I’ve filmed. A lot of my time goes into searching for music that aligns with each reel. I also love being part of a collaborative community. I enjoy working with fellow influencers, businesses, and companies, especially women-run businesses. I’m always happy to support local women and help uplift and break the glass ceiling.

How do you monetize your content? Do you also have another job?

I do exchanges in return for reels, stories, and some UGC. I love supporting local businesses as much as possible. We really need that community in Vancouver, and I don’t like seeing places close down. I also work as a marketing specialist and art director as my other job.

What is your favourite piece of content you have created?

Oh, that’s a tough one; there are so many fun reels. It’s a toss-up between charity work and charity events, especially those focused on homelessness in Vancouver and cancer organizations.

I’d also have to say my travel content, probably because there’s little to no pressure, just my own drive to perfect the creative. When I feel rushed, I don’t produce my best work.

South Africa will always have my heart, and the Maldives as well, along with the Philippines, especially the untouched places like Palawan and Cebu. I love the water and swimming in the ocean, and I’ve always wanted to see rhinos in the wild before they go extinct, as well as swim with whale sharks. Cape Town is a beautiful place, and I think everyone should visit before rhinos disappear in the wild. I’m a sucker for the ocean.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

I love the artistic aspects of what I do. I majored in Graphic Design and Illustration and minored in photography, with a fine arts background. Creating reels is an art form to me. It almost feels like I’m directing a short film with a 30-second lifespan.

The hardest part is how absorbed I can get in my work. For years, I focused so much on perfecting videos while working full-time that I didn’t really carve out time for my love life. I was lucky to meet my husband at one of the functions I was there shooting at, but I still sometimes feel guilty about how consuming work can be and how easily wellness and personal balance can get pushed aside. I’m working towards a better balance, but I tend to get really immersed in creating reels or finding inspiration and ideas for them.

What are your future plans for your channel?

Hopefully, travel collaborations and travel content. It’s been interesting to be invited to restaurant tastings or media events in different parts of the world, but the problem is that I can’t always drop everything to fly 13 hours for a massage collaboration in the Philippines or a tasting in Toronto and still pay $1,000 for a flight to get there.

Where can we follow you?

You can follow me on Instagram or TikTok.

PAY IT FORWARD: What is another Canadian content creator that you love?

There are too many to list, but here are my top 5

@pork_ninjas – An authentic food content creator. I love watching her travel reels, and hanging out with her has been a blast.

@shermansfoodadventures – His passion for food and his thirst for travel are truly inspiring, not to mention how humble and kind he is in real life.

@_create_everyday – She is new to the scene, but I love her enthusiasm for getting it right for her clients. She really cares about what she puts out. She is a social media manager for a few businesses in Surrey and White Rock.

@itsclarissawong – She is a workhorse: a full-time mom, business owner, and runs her own IG channel. Wow. She is my hero. She is truly a force to be reckoned with.

@garbo.zhu – I love her fashion content. She used to be a pottery maker but moved into fashion, jewelry, makeup, and travel. I love her authenticity.
