“A Day in the Life” with: Performing Artist Jennifer Tong

If Jennifer Tong were a holiday, she would be New Year’s Eve. Full of optimism and promise, fire and gunpowder, with a splash of bubbly and sparkle, Jen has as much fun committing as she commits to having fun. A creative force both on the stage and on screen, the energy and passion Jen brings to everything she touches make her a standout performer – and a stand-up person.

Jen’s career has taken her full circle. Growing up in Richmond, BC, Jen featured in TV series such as Fakes, Fire Country, So Help Me Todd, The Good Doctor, Motherland: Fort Salem, Grand Army, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, before landing her most recent leading role in the upcoming feature film Rags 2 Richmond. The film is set and shot locally, and has been a nostalgic experience for Jen, as she’s found herself filming at old family haunts in her childhood neighbourhood.

This project came on the heels of her Bard on the Beach debut, where she performed in Much Ado About Nothing and Two Gentlemen of Verona. Jen has also graced the stage at the Gateway Theatre and is often found making her audience cackle and helping her students step out of their comfort zone at Tightrope Improv Theatre.

Jen’s dedication expands beyond her talent as an actor. As a friend, she shows up with consistency despite her (comically) hectic schedule, will always invite you along to a social event (even if you just met), and is the first in line (sometimes literally) to support her peers in their creative endeavours. In addition to being a voracious performer and thoughtful friend, Jen is an activist, a foodie, and a curious soul to her core.

For the woman who is New Year’s embodied, we can’t wait to see what this New Year brings her.
