Refood works to divert nourishing food that would otherwise be deemed waste to feed people in need. Since 2015, Refood has been supporting communities, specifically Filipino and Indigenous communities in Burnaby, although their work supports families of all backgrounds. We talked with Danison Buan, Founder and Executive Director of Refood, to learn more.

Describe your charity/non-profit/volunteer work in a few sentences.
Refood is a non-profit organization founded in 2015, dedicated to reducing food waste and ensuring no one goes hungry. We believe everyone deserves access to nutritious food, and we work hard to make this a reality for those who need it most.
Our mission is simple: collect surplus food from grocery stores and other sources, and distribute it to people in need. We focus on helping Filipino and Indigenous communities, as well as individual families struggling to make ends meet. By rescuing perfectly good food that would otherwise go to waste, we not only feed those in need but also reduce the environmental impact of food waste.
At Refood, we understand that food insecurity is a complex issue, and we address it respectfully and culturally appropriately. We partner with local organizations and community groups to ensure our services reach those who need them most, while working closely with donors to meet their needs and expectations.
