Describe your charity/non-profit/volunteer work in a few sentences.
Meadow Rose Society provides essentials for children 3 and younger, living in Chilliwack and Hope, whose families are in financial crisis. We provide a welcoming and non-judgemental space where clients feel supported.
What problem does it aim to solve?
Gaps exist in our social nets and we are seeing this with rising inflation and cost of living. Meadow Rose Society aims to fill these gaps so parents in our communities can access essentials for their babies in a space that provides dignity and connection.
When did you start/join it?
I started in June 2023.
What made you want to get involved?
I got involved with the Meadow Rose Society because I have always been passionate about contributing to my community and connecting with others. When I learned about the organization’s mission to provide free essentials to babies in need, I was deeply moved by the idea of supporting infants and their families. I believe that every child deserves a healthy and happy start in life, regardless of their family’s economic circumstances, and every family deserves to feel like they are supporting their babies in a dignified way.
What was the situation like when you started?
When I first joined, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and inviting atmosphere at the Meadow Rose Society. It wasn’t just a place for transactions; it radiated a genuine sense of compassion and hospitality. The Meadow Rose Society places a strong emphasis on upholding dignity and respect, and it’s evident that clients can sense this commitment.
As I observed the centre, I couldn’t help but be delighted by the thoughtful contributions from generous donors beyond the essentials, including clothing, blankets, and toys. It was heartwarming to see the babies and toddlers happily engaged in playtime within the toy section while we prepared items for them. What made this experience even more special was knowing that they could select their favourite toy to take home with them, creating a memorable and joyful connection to the Meadow Rose Society for both them and their parents.
How has it changed since?
In recent months, we have witnessed a noticeable surge in the needs of our community. The costs of essential items such as groceries and baby supplies have been steadily rising, and the overall cost of living has followed suit. Consequently, we find ourselves welcoming new families on a regular basis, all of whom are seeking essential support for their babies.
What more needs to be done?
We are in need of financial support from individuals in the community as well as corporate donations. We also accept donations of new and gently used baby items Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
How can our readers help?
We accept donations for all baby supplies. Our greatest need is diapers size 3-7, all types of formula and stage 2 forward-facing car seats. Cash donations are also greatly appreciated to help us continue to support our community.
Do you have any events coming up?
We will be running our Tiny Treasures Christmas Drive soon. Details will be on our social media pictures. We also have an ongoing way of supporting Meadow Rose, through our Amazon Wishlist.
