Michael S. Weir is an actor and writer living in North Vancouver. He’s also an accountant, father, and grandfather—all roles that inform the heartfelt approach he takes in his forthcoming YouTube comedy series, Blame the Accountant!, that he both writes and stars in.
Born and raised in Kamloops, Michael grew up in a family that encouraged creative passion. His mother was an author and his older brother, Ian, would go on to create CBC’s Arctic Air. Michael’s first love was acting, and, as a kid, he made his own movies and participated in high school plays. He moved to Vancouver in the early 1980s after being accepted into Langara College’s prestigious Studio 58 program, and became a fixture in the local theatre circuit, performing in stage productions like The Odd Couple and The Affections of May. Michael also co-wrote and executive produced a short film, 2013’s Triangle of Me, and, on television, starred in episodes of Untold Stories of the E.R. and Diagnose Me.
It’s no secret, of course, that being a full-time actor is a difficult pursuit; and especially in the ‘80s, when Michael came to Vancouver, and the city’s film industry was still in relative infancy. So, to support his creative passion (and keep food on his table!) he harnessed another passion—mathematics—into another successful career: accounting.
With Blame the Accountant!, Michael brings his two seemingly unlikely worlds together and highlights the parallels between them, including the discipline required to achieve success in both fields. For Michael, the union also underscores how important it is to
always have joy and fun in life—a message he hopes the show imparts to his young grandsons, Nathaniel and Zander.

Which ’hood are you in?
Upper Lonsdale in North Vancouver. I have the distinct luxury and pleasure of having a 10-minute commute from Upper Lonsdale to Mid Lonsdale—depending on traffic, of course!
What do you do?
I’m an actor, writer, and the senior partner in an accounting practice. I also have three grown kids and two grandsons who I love spending time with. And, aside from that, I’m an avid sportsman.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on developing a comedy series, Blame the Accountant! The show follows the adventures of Sherman: a lovable accountant who’s an honest “everyman” with the unique ability to transport himself—and the audience—into a world of imagination.
