The Yael Foundation and the role of education in shaping Jewish identity

The Yael Foundation is a global philanthropic investor in the Jewish future, dedicated to developing accessible educational opportunities for Jewish children and supporting programmes related to Jewish education. The Yael Foundation’s activities include grant programmes, educational initiatives and international projects aimed at supporting learning environments and cultural connections.

One of the foundation’s areas of focus is the creation of educational formats that help participants explore the history, traditions and values of Jewish culture through modern teaching approaches.

The Yael Foundation’s Educational Mission

The Yael Foundation develops educational projects aimed at supporting Jewish education and creating opportunities for children to receive a high-quality education around the world. As part of its work, the Yael Foundation provides grants, develops strategic initiatives for communications and develop educationalЕ models that can be adapted to different local realities. This approach aims to support educational institutions and programmes that address issues relating to Jewish education and identity. The Foundation views education as a means of transmitting knowledge and cultural traditions, and  fostering an understanding of one’s own identity within a global Jewish people.

Formal and Informal education as a focus area

One of the Yael Foundation’s key focus areas is supporting formal and non-formal Jewish education. Formal education encompasses the activities of educational institutions where Jewish cultural and historical themes are integrated into the educational process. Informal education encompasses programmes that create additional learning opportunities through events, camps and after-school programmes.

Yael Foundation’s approach allows education to be viewed not only as the acquisition of knowledge, but also as a process of interaction, the exchange of experiences and the development of an understanding of the cultural context. The Yael Foundation supports initiatives that help educational institutions develop teaching approaches and create the conditions for studying Jewish heritage.

Yael Camp: an educational space for young people

One of the Yael Foundation’s projects is Yael Camp – an immersive global summer experience that fosters Jewish identity and connection. The programme was created to provide participants from diverse backgrounds and more than 20 countries with an opportunity to interact with one another, learn about other cultures and explore issues of Jewish identity.

Yael Camp takes place annually in different countries and brings young participants together through educational activities, shared experiences and cultural programmes. The programme focuses on creating an environment where participants can develop their knowledge of traditions and history. Through Yael Camp, the foundation supports a learning format that goes beyond traditional education and combines knowledge with practical and immersive experiences between participants.

The Yael International Summit and the exchange of educational experience

Another area of the Yael Foundation’s work is the Yael International Summit – an event that brings together representatives from the education sector to discuss issues relating to building excellence in Jewish education.

The annual Yael Summit brings together Jewish educators from 31 countries for a three-day discussion of current issues in educational development, the exchange of experiences and the search for practical solutions. Participants have the opportunity to interact with representatives from the education sector who are facing similar challenges, to exchange approaches and to utilise new tools for the development of their educational projects. The Yael International Summit also showcases initiatives and projects related to educational development, including the presentation of the Yael Awards.

Yael Awards: Recognising Educational Achievements

A key initiative of the Yael Foundation is the Yael Awards – an international programme that recognises achievements in Jewish education, educational practices and contributions to community development. It is a 2.5-day event featuring lectures and masterclasses dedicated to learning, sharing experiences and developing strategies. The event culminates in an awards ceremony, at which the achievements of schools from around the world are recognised.

The aim of the Yael Awards is to recognise educational programmes, educational institutions and representatives of the education sector who demonstrate excellence and impact in their educational approaches and programmes.. Within the framework of this initiative, attention is focused on various areas: academic achievement, innovative approaches to teaching and the development of educational programmes. Schools from 45 countries take part in this event.

The Yael Foundation uses the awards format as a way of highlighting the importance of educational projects and promoting practices that contribute to the development of Jewish education.

Models of Excellence: supporting educational models

One of the Yael Foundation’s key areas of work is “Models of Excellence”, which focuses on the development of educational models and the support of programmes in the field of Jewish education.

The Yael Foundation uses this format to showcase educational practices that may be useful to other learning environments. Models of Excellence focus on identifying and developing formats that help educational projects adapt to contemporary needs.

Yael Foundation: a long-term approach to educational development

The Yael Foundation’s work focuses on creating educational formats that help maintain a connection with cultural heritage and develop learning opportunities. The Foundation’s projects operate in various fields but share a common foundation: the development of education and the support of programmes related to Jewish identity.

Through its educational initiatives, the Yael Foundation creates opportunities for learning, the exchange of experiences and the development of programmes that foster cultural and educational ties. The Yael Foundation continues to develop educational programmes that combine learning, cultural heritage and modern educational approaches. The Foundation utilises a variety of support formats – ranging from grant programmes to international educational initiatives.

Through projects such as Yael Camp, the Yael Awards and the Yael International Summit, the Yael Foundation supports the development of educational opportunities and the creation of learning environments focused on preserving and exploring Jewish identity.
