“A Day in the Life” with: Performing Artist Madison Simms

Born in Victoria and raised in Vancouver, Madison Simms is a triple-threat performer and dedicated arts educator. She trained at the Caulfield School of Dance in Port Moody, spent time at SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts, and has a certificate in acting from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Madison has had a magical performing career, working around the world with Disney Cruise Line and the Shanghai Disney Resort as a Vocalist, Dancer, and Actor. Additionally, she has performed with local theatre companies such as Align Entertainment and Raincity Theatre. You may have seen her last summer as Margot in Theatre Under the Stars’ production of “Legally Blonde”, and she is now rehearsing with Royal City Musical Theatre to return to the role of Fiona in their production of “Shrek the Musical”.

When she isn’t performing, Madison teaches at local dance studios, community centres, and public schools. She particularly enjoys choreographing for Gleneagle Secondary School’s Performing Arts program, and is always talking about her amazing students.

I like to start off my mornings by taking my dog, Lola, for a walk! I love walking the trails in my neighborhood. Lola does too, but she gets tired really quick (she’s a princess and wants to be carried everywhere).

I ran some errands and stopped into the Dance Box in Coquitlam. Saw my lovely friend and coworker Cierra and stocked up on some rehearsal essentials.
Taking in some nature on my walk back from the skytrain station. Made a new friend.
Enjoying a moment of peace before I teach a class. Today I had some of my students coming in for a special Spring Break class, where we worked on technique and learned a combination. I was so impressed that they took time out of their break to work on their skills.
Later on at the studio, I was visited by some tapping castmates! We spent a lot of time cleaning the timing and sounds in this number and it’s sounding SO GOOD!
After tap rehearsal, I headed over to New West Secondary where we do most of our rehearsals for Shrek. This is a photo of my friends Madison and Sarah on our first day of music rehearsal! We’ve now started doing work-throughs and even run-throughs of the show, which has been super exciting.

Every rehearsal with this cast brings me so much joy. Everyone in the cast, crew, and on the team is working so hard to bring this show to life! We like to spice things up and do themes sometimes too — here we are on our “pink day”!

Some days I am lucky enough to spend my evening enjoying live theatre as an audience member. I recently went with my pal Thomas to support some of our VERY talented friends in Capilano University’s production of the Addam’s Family.
