What is your business called and what does it do?
Sweet Nostalgia Desserts is an online pre-order dessert shop. I make Asian-inspired desserts that evoke memories and tell a story through flavour. We offer coconut jelly desserts, Basque cheesecakes, and custom orders for special occasions.
What made you want to do this work?
I have worked in hospitality since I was 16, from casual to fine dining. Over time, I wanted to create something of my own. I love how food can instantly transport you to a memory, and I wanted to share desserts that celebrate culture and connection in a personal way.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
I wanted desserts that feel thoughtful and meaningful rather than trend-driven. Inspired by traditional Asian flavours, I focus on creating desserts that are flavourful, not overly sweet, and easy to enjoy. Each dessert is made with care, offering something familiar yet refined.
Who are your clientele or demographics?
Most of my customers are from the Asian community, mainly in the Tri-Cities, Richmond, and Vancouver. Many are families or young professionals looking for something unique for celebrations or everyday enjoyment.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
Customers place orders at least 48 hours in advance for pickup or delivery. This pre-order system allows me to keep everything fresh, work in small batches, and reduce waste while maintaining high quality.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
I am based in Coquitlam and operate entirely online.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask when comparing services?
A good question is, “What makes your desserts different?”
My answer is that each dessert is made with intention, using quality ingredients. I focus on creating flavours that are satisfying without being too sweet, and textures that are enjoyable to eat. It is as much about the experience as it is about the taste.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the hardest part?
The best part is the relationships I have built. I get to be part of important milestones in my customers’ lives.
The hardest part is the uncertainty of running a small business. Sales can fluctuate, which is stressful, but it has also encouraged me to adapt and grow.
What is your favourite joke about your profession?
I always say I need to “quality check” everything, but really, I just love dessert.
Where can we follow you?
You can follow us on Instagram.
PAY IT FORWARD: What is another local business that you love?
I admire JJ Bakery, a Filipino women-owned family business. They make amazing drinks and baked goods, and I am inspired by their growth and success.
