Five Minutes With: Vancouver Pop-Psych Band Groove Saloon

Groove Saloon is a pop-psych band from Vancouver, BC, born of the aberrant but cunning minds of Daniel McBurnie and Graham Gomez. Described as a marriage between Tame Impala and the Backstreet Boys that no one asked for, Groove Saloon’s music can tickle and delight as easily as it can offend and disgruntle.

Previously of the band Good For Grapes, and deviating entirely from their folk roots, this duo emerges with a fresh sonic identity that blends elements of psych-pop, hip-hop, and rock into an intoxicating cosmic gumbo. With the release of their first two songs, much is still on the horizon for Groove Saloon.

Groove Saloon

Name:

Groove Saloon (Members: Daniel McBurnie & Graham Gomez)

Genre:

Psych-Pop

Founded:

We have been making music together for almost 15 years! We have been working on Groove Saloon music since 2022.

# of Albums:

No albums yet! But it is certainly a goal on the horizon.

Latest Single:

We just released our second single “LET ME DOWN”. It’s a groovy, upbeat tune with a wild music video to go with it.

Latest Video:

Our latest single “LET ME DOWN” has an interesting fever-dream of a music video. It features a repurposed version of an animated student film called “Nugz Gone Wild” that truly lives up to its name. If you’ve never seen chicken nuggets dance to a beat, you need to check it out.

Favourite musician growing up:

We are both recovering emo-kids who gave all our teenage angst to bands like My Chemical Romance and Underoath.

Favourite musician now:

Daniel is most excited about Alice Phoebe Lou and Vundabar these days, and Graham can’t get enough of Louis Cole and Salute.

Guilty pleasure song:

“Happy Birthday” – probably the most consistent throughout the years.

Live show ritual:

Technical difficulties, panic, realize life is short, have a great time.

Favourite local musician:

The answer to this question will always be Devours.

EP or LP?

Of course, that depends, but we are old men and tend to prefer full albums.

Early bird or night owl?

Night owls, so much so that we sometimes become early birds.

Road or studio?

That depends on what we’ve spent the last few months doing. We’ve been in studio mode for a while now so we are itching to hit the stage!

Any shows or albums coming up?

No shows booked at the moment, but we are hard at work putting together our live set. Right now you can check out our latest single “Let Me Down”, and our first release “If I Don’t Make It”. Both feature full-length music videos!
