Charitable Choices: Brenda Tully of Hearts and Hands for Refugees CANADA

Hearts and Hands for Refugees CANADA is a non-profit organization which aims to provide hope for refugees in Thailand who are suffering from poor living conditions and hunger. This group is raising funds to provide food first and would eventually like to bring refugees to Canada. We spoke to Brenda Tully, the secretary and treasurer to find out more.

Hearts and Hands for Refugees CANADA

Describe your charity/non-profit/volunteer work in a few sentences.

We are dedicated to extending a helping hand to Christian Refugees facing crises in Thailand, offering them the support they desperately need. We understand the challenges they endure when fleeing persecution and aim to provide essential resources such as food and shelter. Through our involvement, we emphasize Compassion and Respect, believing that by standing together, we can be a Positive influence in their lives. We are committed to not only helping them cope with their situation but also empowering them to become a Blessing to others despite their circumstances.

What problem does it aim to solve?

We are addressing the critical issue of providing food and shelter to Christian refugees in Thailand who are facing crises. We understand the urgency of this situation and strive to offer immediate relief to those in need. By providing essential resources such as food and shelter, we aim to restore hope and dignity to individuals who have been displaced from their homes due to persecution. Furthermore, we work towards facilitating their relocation to Canada, where they can start anew and rebuild their lives in safety and security. Through our efforts, we aim to empower these refugees with the support they need to embark on a journey towards a brighter future.

When did you start/join it?

I joined a few months ago after learning about the critical situation faced by Christian refugees in Thailand. I was asked to join this grassroots project by my two close friends last December. I was moved by their vision to help those who had no one else to look to for help. We started right away by assisting a family who had no one else to turn to and needed assistance with their basic needs.

What made you want to get involved?

I think ultimately to help other people enjoy a good life. The story of our founder really made me see what could be done and how dire the situation is.

What was the situation like when you started?

It was sad, it still is sad.

How has it changed since?

Since then we have expanded to help 2 or 3 other families that have dependent children to support. Our goal is to support as many families and individuals as possible while they wait to be sponsored by a third country.

What more needs to be done?

There is still much more to be done, but one crucial step we can take is to ensure these individuals have access to basic necessities such as food and shelter. By raising funds, we can provide them with essential resources to meet their immediate needs and support their journey towards a better life. Additionally, we can explore avenues to facilitate their relocation to Canada, where they can find safety and opportunities for a brighter future. Even simple acts of reaching out and offering assistance can make a significant difference in the lives of those who have lost everything. In a situation where they have nothing, any help we offer is invaluable.

There is so much more that we would like to do but are not able to at this time. Such as provide for urgent medical care, provide school supplies for refugee children and provide nutritious food and clean water.

How can our readers help?

You can help us by following our journey and staying updated on our activities. Consider making a donation, whether it’s a one-time contribution or a series of donations. You could also join us in our mission by volunteering your time or skills. Additionally, spreading the word about our cause to your friends, family, and social networks can make a significant impact. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those we serve. Thank you for your support!

Do you have any events coming up?

Nothing planned yet, just raising funds to help.

Where can we follow you?
