Matthew Valinho is an accomplished athlete, business student, and actor who values hard work, community, and dedication to his craft. Born and raised in Vancouver, Matthew was drawn to theatre at an early age after seeing a Magee Mainstage production of Legally Blonde.
Matthew went on to audition for Mainstage, obtaining roles in a number of productions. He also had the opportunity to collaborate with such industry notables as music director, Christopher King, and choreographer, Ken Overbey. Now a graduate of that program, Matthew has gone on to have roles in Theatre Under the Stars productions of We Will Rock You and, most recently, the Prom.
Beneath his charming exterior lies an equally charming, hardworking young crackerjack who is as comfortable in the boardroom as he is on stage. Currently, in his fourth year of studies at UBC’s Sauder School of Business, Matthew is pursuing a double specialization in Marketing and Operations & Logistics.
Theatre has allowed Matthew to develop and hone many valuable leadership traits while pursuing his passion for performing: initiative, humility, communication, mutual respect for others, positivity and confidence. These traits run deeper than any single performance on stage.
Matthew is grateful for the tremendous support and encouragement he has received from everyone at Theatre Under the Stars. Come January, you can find Matthew playing the role of Lumière in Align Entertainment’s production of Beauty and the Beast.
