What is your business called and what does it do?
Drby Pet Co., a local business that offers a variety of small-batch, eco-friendly, and allergy-safe pet care and grooming products to the deserving dogs (and cats!) of Canada.
What made you want to do this work?
After a relentless search for pet care products that could be tolerated by our hypersensitive corgi, Drby, we made the decision to create our own grooming line without the hidden harmful chemicals or fragrances so common in today’s market.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
We firmly believe that quality should be affordable. We noticed there were a lot of products on the market that were advertised as “safe” for pets, but while looking into each ingredient one by one, we discovered they are not very safe at all! Then on the other hand, the rare higher quality products you can find often come at a hefty cost. We want to offer our customers the peace of mind of simple and safe products with an affordable price tag.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Loving pet owners who regularly groom their pups at home and pet stores that support local brands. From all across Canada and beyond, we have made tails wag all over the world!
How does your business make money? How does it work?
We source, manufacture, and distribute each item in our line locally or within Canada. You can find our products through our website, many local pet stores, and on Amazon Canada. We attend in-person outdoor events through the warmer months, so make sure to follow our Instagram for our spring/ summer schedule! We would love to meet you and your favourite furry friends!
Where in the city can we find your profession?
As of now, you can find our products in local pet stores around the Lower Mainland, Sunshine Coast and in the City of Calgary! We are currently working on expanding into more stores across Canada. You can also catch us in person during our outdoor markets!
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
“What is the difference between your products vs ______ (brand) that makes similar products?” – At Drby Pet Co., we pride ourselves in remaining transparent about what goes into each and every item in our line. Through our rigorous research and development stage we incorporate various types of testing: temperature, smell, touch, taste, and more, which is all done on humans (ourselves!) over and over again before being launched to the public.. and yes, we do taste our products! All of our ingredients are safe for humans and dogs if they get licked or ingested by accident; which seasoned owners know – happens more often than not! Our ingredients are sourced in an eco-friendly and sustainable way, to leave as little of a carbon footprint as possible!
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part is engaging with our customers and seeing them come back with huge smiles and happy pups. When our customers love the products as much as we love making them, everything is worthwhile! Many of our customers are referrals from their friends and family. Knowing we are creating this community of like-minded pet owners is a dream come true!
The worst part is not having the buying power! As a small business, sourcing is always a challenge when it comes to how much we can spend. We always want to find the balance between delivering the best possible products and making a profit to sustain and grow our business. With the rising cost of everything these days, raw materials have increased significantly as well. However, we remain dedicated to keeping our prices affordable for the general public without ever compromising on the quality of our ingredients.
