How would you describe your comedy style?
I have no idea. Surrealistic, stream of conscious comedy. I’ve been very fortunate to have worked in the comedy industry the way that I have, I’m not a stand-up comedian. I’m always working with people.
Who are some of your influences?
Anyone who made me laugh! I’d watch and study Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Jack Benny. Monty Python guys, definitely Jon Cleese. Also Robin Williams and Jonathan Winters.
Who was your favourite comedian growing up?
Tim Conway and Carol Burnett.
Who is your favourite comedian now?
All the cancelled ones! Just kidding. Steve Carell, Kristin Wiig, Kate McKinnon… there’s no shortage of people, especially over the last few years, since comedy has been needed. Ron James is another one.
What is your pre-show ritual?
I like to walk around in a couple of circles, mutter to myself a bit… I went to the Muttering School of Relaxation. I need to have truly nothing on my mind.
What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?
Vancouver! I love working in Vancouver because it’s where I grew up. I come back every couple of years and do fundraising for Theatresports at the Improv Centre. It’s where I got my start.
What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?
Well, once I had to write a book. One of the stories was a short story, a lot of short stories, and one of the stories I really liked… I took the first and last lines of famous concept novels and changed up all the middle. A TALE OF TWO CITIES ended up being about the Road Runner and Coyote. It was heart-wrenching and beautiful.
What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?
I put my ear to the ground. Netflix specials.
Do you have anything to promote right now?
We are currently promoting Hyprov, improv comedy under hypnosis, with myself and Asad Mecci.
Where can we follow you?
PAY IT FORWARD: Who is another local comic/comedian we should know about?
Check out Ron James, he is a Canadian stand-up comedian and an amazing wordsmith.
