Pear is a Vancouver jeweller who creates high-quality handmade jewellery from 14k gold. We got to speak to Lauren Twining, founder & designer, to find out more about what they do.
What is your business called, and what does it do?
Pear creates high-quality handmade jewellery from 14k gold, designed and made to withstand the tests of time.
What made you want to do this work?
Jewellery making initially began as a side project during my early 20s when I was working in the service industry. It served as a means to create jewellery that truly resonated with my personal style and identity. Over the course of a decade, it evolved, especially after I enrolled in jewellery design school. The emphasis shifted toward creating pieces using gold, diamonds, and gemstones.
However, a significant turning point occurred when I experienced a prolonged health battle following my recovery from Covid-19. The situation forced me to put my career as a personal trainer on hold. It was during that time I made a decision to wholeheartedly pursue my hobby and genuine passion for jewellery design.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
My aim is to show individuals that gold is an ideal investment for their everyday wardrobe. Often, solid gold jewellery is stored away in a box, reserved only for special occasions or specific fingers. However, I want to encourage those who are undecided about investing in themselves to recognize that gold is not only durable and strong but also withstands the tests of time. This makes it the perfect choice for jewellery that can be worn every day, whether you’re relaxing at home or enjoying a meal out.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
I would say my clientele are women who value investment pieces that are high-quality and subtly luxurious. Someone that understands the value of quality-made pieces.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
Every Pear piece is handmade here in Vancouver, B.C. Customers across the globe can shop at our website.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
What is your ethos? At Pear, our ethos revolves around creating “pieces made to last through all the seasons.” We believe in creating jewellery that not only allows individuals to express themselves but also withstands the test of time, no matter the climate or phase of life. To achieve this, we exclusively use solid 14k gold in all our designs. This ensures that our chains are sturdy and strong, maintaining their resilience over time, while our rings are a durable weight that prevents them from becoming flimsy over time. Additionally, we prioritize the use of recycled gold whenever possible. As a brand, we are committed to continuous growth and evolution, always placing our customers at the forefront of it all.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
There is something so cool about the process of creating jewellery. The initial state of the materials is far from aesthetically pleasing. The metals are raw, and the surfaces are rough, often having little resemblance to the final product. However, as the process unfolds, the piece evolves. It starts to smooth out, the gold begins to shine, the stones are carefully set, and eventually, a beautiful piece is created. This has always been my favourite aspect of the process.
I wouldn’t say it’s the worst, but certainly, one of the most challenging aspects is juggling the roles of an entrepreneur and a mother to a 9-month-old and a 5-year-old. Finding a balance between these two responsibilities can be difficult at times. However, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to do what I love and be on this journey.

PAY IT FORWARD: What is another local business that you love?
A couple of local businesses that I love and admire are One Wednesday and Supercrush. Both brands are female-founded and led, emphasizing their products’ quality and sustainability. Another great company to look out for is Raven Coffee Company. They’ve quickly become my favourite coffee brand.
