Long before Ekma Studio had a name, Ekin Kalayci was already creating, filling pages with sketches, experimenting with paint, and holding onto ideas that surfaced in quiet moments. Art was never separate from her life; it moved with her, always present, always returning.
Now, as the designer and co-owner of Ekma Studio, that same instinct continues to shape her work. Alongside her creative practice, Ekin works as a chocolatier, following years as a sous chef in Vancouver kitchens. There is a shared language between these worlds—one of precision, patience, and an understanding that small details can transform an experience.
Her designs feel like gentle observations. Through minimal lines and soft compositions, she captures the rhythm of everyday life: morning light in a café, familiar streets, the comfort of repetition. What might go unnoticed becomes something to pause with.
Ekma Studio grew from this way of seeing—a space where her ideas could take form beyond the kitchen. It remains an evolving reflection of her process, shaped slowly and with intention.

Which ‘hood are you in?
I’m based in the West End in Vancouver, BC.
What do you do?
I’m a graphic designer and chocolatier. I love combining my design skills with creating everyday-use objects and applying the same creative approach to food. As co-owner of EKMA Studio, I mostly focus on design and social media, while also working as a chocolatier at Mink Chocolates.
What are you currently working on?
Right now, I’m really interested in block printing. While continuing my digital design work, I’ve been experimenting with different motifs by carving them into blocks and printing them onto fabric. I’ve been enjoying the balance between digital design and more hands-on, tactile creative processes.
