The brainchild of Blair Bellerose, a Métis, Cree and Dene singer/songwriter/guitarist, Vancouver-based band Midnight Sparrows plays guitar-driven hard rock that combines elements of classic rock, power pop and old school heavy metal.
Midnight Sparrows’ debut album, Rock & Roll City, was nominated for a Native American Music Award, as was their second studio album, Born in the City, both receiving radio play across North America and beyond.
Their newest album, Arrows Arrows Arrows, was released on May 26, 2026. Produced and written by band founder and lead, Blair Bellerose, and engineered and mixed by Juno and Western Canadian Music Award winner Sheldon Zaharko, the much-anticipated rock album features ten unforgettable tracks.
Midnight Sparrows music is inspired by Bellerose’s St. Albert, Alberta roots, his experiences growing up in Alberta and B.C as an urban Indigenous man with a passion for rock & roll music, and a lifelong devotion to the electric guitar.
Along with lead vocalist and guitarist, Bellerose, Midnight Sparrows features Jared Whitehead on drums and percussion, Jason De Couto on piano, organ and keyboards, Goby Catt on bass and backing vocals, and Luis E. Carrillo on rhythm and acoustic guitar, and backing vocals.

Guilty pleasure song:
When I was a young metal head, I was embarrassed to admit how much I liked Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. Now that I’m older, however, I have no problem with admitting how much I love that song.
Live show ritual:
I usually try to do some mindful relaxation before a show, some stretching, some visualization, and that sort of thing. I will usually do some guitar and vocal warm-ups as well. It’s also important to have a nutritional meal beforehand so I have the fuel I need to go up on stage and rock out.
Favourite local musician:
We have shared the stage with and share a drummer with local band Eleanor Rising. They are awesome, and you should totally check them out!
EP or LP?
Our latest release is a 10-song LP. If you have the budget and materials, LP is the way to go!
Early bird or night owl?
Historically, I have always been more of a night owl, but I am now trying to be more of an early bird.
Road or studio?
Both are great, but the process of creating music in a studio can be absolutely magical.
Any shows or albums coming up?
Midnight Sparrow’s latest album, Arrows Arrows Arrows, was released on May 26, 2026 and is now available wherever you stream or download music.
We have a show at The Portside Pub coming up on July 3rd, and will be sharing the stage with Rocket Fuel, Dan Meadows and the Banditos.
