Homegrown Business: Lacey Norton and Elizabeth Davey of HIRRS

HIRRS is a Vancouver business that creates beautiful, functional bodywear. We spoke with Lacey Norton and Elizabeth Davey, founders, to find out more about them.

What is your brand called and what do you make?

HIRRS is inspired by a desire to create beautiful, functional bodywear – pieces that connect women to how they feel in their bodies and support them as they move throughout the day. HIRRS aims to reconceive what we wear underneath.

Created for the modern woman and person with purpose, we create bottoms, bras, and bodysuits in a variety of styles that are inclusive of all shapes and sizes.

When did you launch?

HIRRS was brought to market just over a year and a half ago with a seasonless and edited product line, developed to ensure that every design in the collection serves a unique purpose and function.

What are some of the things that differentiate you from the competition?

Based on our past experience in working in performance apparel, we recognized a tremendous opportunity to bring the functional and technical aspects found in women’s performance garments into everyday intimates.

By using functional fabrics and applying performance-based techniques to our designs, we have been able to design pieces that not only perform for you throughout the day, they also feel amazing on the body. This has allowed us to remove the most uncomfortable components (wires, tags and clasps) of women’s intimates while ensuring that function and performance are not sacrificed.

The HIRRS collection currently consists of eight edited designs, all serving a specific purpose, function and fit depending on the bodywear needs of each woman.

We believe beauty means being comfortable in our own skin and that the female form, in all its many forms, is already perfection.

Where is it made?

Our design and operations are based in Vancouver, B.C. Currently, we work with manufacturers overseas with factories who have the ability to meet our quality standards.

What are some of your favourite materials to use?

Our signature material that we use at the moment is a super soft performance mesh fabric developed in Italy – 80% nylon and 20% lycra.

Who is your target audience?

HIRRS is designed for a woman’s movement both literally and figuratively. We are inspired to create for a community of women and people who are pushing boundaries and shifting perspectives; a community that envisions a future marked by change and equality.

Who are some of your fashion influences?

Given our intent to create timeless and seasonless essentials, we tend to avoid drawing inspiration from fashion. We look to be inspired and influenced by the women who wear our product, as well as art, culture, and our day-to-day lives.

Where can we purchase your products?

You can purchase on our website. We are also sold through some of Canada’s most recognized female-owned and operated independent retailers such as One of a Few, Sunja Link Body Shoppe, Gravity Pope, and TURF living as well as Wolfmoon in Ontario.

Where can we follow you?

You can find us on Instagram and on our website.

PAY IT FORWARD: What is another Local fashion brand or designer that you like?

There are so many great female-led stores, brands and designers emerging at the moment. It is impossible to name just one!

The stores that carry HIRRS have many local brands and designers that we love, and we would really encourage people to pay them a visit.

They have beautifully curated selections all with their own flavour; from jewelry to body care, to clothing and accessories.
