Rae Lynn Carson

How would you describe your comedy style?

I would describe my comedy style as wacky, weird, loud and sometimes unexpected.

Who are some of your influences?

Some of my biggest influences are also my favourite comedians now: Tim Robinsons, Ilana Glazer, and Patti Harrison.

Who was your favourite comedian growing up?

Well growing up in the 90s and early 2000’s of course my favorite comedian at that time was Jim Carey. He was the king of wacky and weird.

Who is your favourite comedian now?

See question 2 for more details. Hahaha, I also feel like there are also so so many upcoming queers comedians that I’m already falling in love with too!

What is your pre-show ritual?

Make sure to piss and shit. Probably not what you want to hear but honestly nerves can get the best of you with that. Making for I eat something light and easy on the tumtum and then ill feast afterwards.

What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?

I have performed lots in my small town and that has been pretty fun! But there are so many cool venues popping up all over Vancouver. I love a small venue because it can be fun to really get to know an audience whereas in a bigger venue like performing at either of the locations for “Jokes Please” you can get so much more energy from the audience.

What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?

My favourite bit I have written is my “Hot As Balls” joke. It’s the shortest joke I’ve ever written and it’s ridiculous.

What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?

I usually try listening to podcasts that aren’t comedy related that may have comedians guest on it, I also love Game Changer Show or just going to shows. That’s the best way to see someone perform and support the arts.

Tell us a joke about your city.

Housing. It’s not haha funny but it’s a bloody joke.

Do you have anything to promote right now?

No shows currently but I am hoping to pop on a few stand-up and drag shows before the summer ends!

Where can we follow you?

I’m on Instagram, Twitter and Tiktok.

PAY IT FORWARD: Who is another local comic/comedian we should know about?

Sahara Bayley, Greta Lin and Joanne Tsung are the ones popping into my head right now but there are so many more! And great shows Like Treat Show or Chit Chat comedy and Big Queer Party Mix!
