Gordon’s comedic style, characterized by its clever twists and unexpected punchlines, has earned him a well-deserved reputation as a standout performer in the vibrant comedy scene of Vancouver. We sat down with Chris to discuss his new comedy album and lasers out of boobs.
How would you describe your comedy style?
“Barbarically Silly.” – Edmonton comedian Gulliver Twist
Who are some of your influences?
Lasers out of Boobs
Who was your favourite comedian growing up?
Chris Farley
Who is your favourite comedian now?
Canadian standup comedians I love watching are Jon Dore, Harland Williams and Andrew Iwanyk to name a few. Buy my late great friend Nick Nemeroff’s album, he is a genius and one of a kind.
I also love Zach Galifianakis’ standup, he’s great in movies and interviews, but watch his standup.
Movies: National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.
What is your pre-show ritual?
Stare at my phone with my jokes on it and not really understand what I’m reading.
What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?
I only do galas and I only play sold-out arenas. I only do shows to impress the industry.
What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?
Just like anyone in the audience, I love all my bits. But my main goal on stage is figuring out how everyone is doing tonight and then seeing if they have better than that.
What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?
Live shows. There’s nothing better than watching live comedy. You don’t have to be there to get the jokes, but you should be.
Tell us a joke about your city.
No. I’m not a roast comic.
Do you have anything to promote right now?
I have an album that just came out that is for sure going to win all the awards. Even awards are not intended for comedy albums. So many awards. It’s called Chris Gordon: Industry Favourite.
Where can we follow you?
PAY IT FORWARD: Who is another local comic/comedian we should know about?
Vancouver has an amazing comedy scene. The West doesn’t get enough love from the comedy industry in Canada. Canadians in general should support their own Canadian comedians more. Go to a live show. Remember the comedian’s name you liked. Follow them on social media, and tell others about them. Go see another one of their shows. Request them at festivals. Comedians are one of Canada’s greatest exports, but why do they have to leave the country to get recognition?
Also, in Vancouver check out my twin Chris Griffin. Together we are known as the Gorffins. We are roided our orphans separated at birth. We found each other later in life and fell in love but realized we were related. It’s kind of like Star Wars.
