Charitable Choices: Robin Cahtarevic, Account representative of Electronic Recycling Association

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit organization which aims to reduce electronic waste and the negative environmental impact by promoting the reuse and recycling of electronic equipment, such as computers and laptops. We spoke with Robin Cahtarevic, Account representative, to learn more about their work.

Electronic Recycling Association

Describe your charity/non-profit in a few sentences.

Electronic Recycling Association helps companies reduce their e-waste by collecting it, refurbishing and then donating it to charities, other non-profits or individuals.

What problem does it aim to solve?

Electronic Recycling Association is working on diverting IT equipment from going to landfills and trying to fix it, but if it can’t be
fixed it goes to recycling. We try to help in any way we can. Whether it be donations or volunteering opportunities (after volunteering for 24h, volunteers receive a free refurbished laptop).

When did you start/join it?

I joined Electronic Recycling Association about 3 years ago.

What made you want to get involved?

It seemed like a great opportunity to help the environment and others.

What was the situation like when you started?

I started working before Covid, so things were a lot easier. There were no restrictions, it was easier to take care of donations, and easier to organize pickups.

How has it changed since?

Since covid, we have had a bigger number of requests for donations from individuals/charities, which has been harder to fulfill. Thankfully we have our great clients which have been helping with their surplus IT equipment.

How can our readers help?

We are always looking for companies interested in taking care of their IT equipment in an environmentally friendly way. Other than that, we do regularly need volunteers to help out around the warehouse, so if someone is interested they can reach out to us.
