Nancy and Anthony Wingham, co-founders of Nuez Acres, have transformed their passion for sustainability and cultural heritage into an innovative Indigenous, women-led brand. Based in Langley, BC, Nuez Acres produces eco-friendly, waterless beauty products made from sustainably harvested pecans from their family farm in northern Mexico. Motivated by a 2018 price crash in the pecan market, they sought to create value while addressing water waste in the beauty industry. Their products cater to all skin and hair types, emphasizing ethical sourcing and sustainability. Nuez Acres is available online, in local markets, and via major retailers.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Nuez Acres is a seed-to-skin brand that transforms the natural power of pecans into 100% waterless beauty products for skin, hair, and body. Our pecans are sustainably harvested from our family’s farm in northern Mexico. As an Indigenous, women-led company, we’re dedicated to promoting sustainable beauty practices while highlighting the importance of water conservation in the industry.
What made you want to do this work?
When the pecan market experienced a price crash in 2018, we knew we needed to find an innovative way to add value to this incredible natural resource. We saw a unique opportunity to bring the nutrient-rich benefits of pecans into the beauty industry, which has not fully tapped into this ingredient’s potential. By creating natural beauty products, we aimed to support small farmers while introducing something truly beneficial to the skincare and haircare market.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
We set out to address the rampant water waste and unsustainable practices in the beauty industry. With over 5 billion liters of water being used in skincare production globally, we felt compelled to create an alternative that conserves water while still delivering exceptional results. Our mission is to educate consumers on the importance of waterless formulations and empower them to make more conscious choices for both their skin and the planet.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Our products are intentionally designed to be gender-neutral and suitable for all skin and hair types. We strive to create multi-use products that can be shared across generations and household members to minimize waste. Our focus is on people who value natural, sustainable beauty solutions that cater to diverse needs.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
As a product-based business, we generate revenue through the sale of our waterless beauty products. Although we cater to a broad audience, we focus on small-batch production to ensure quality and sustainability. You can find our products online through our website, Amazon, Walmart Canada, independent retailers, and at farmers markets and local events.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
We are based in Langley, BC, where we produce all our products with care and precision. We offer free shipping across Canada and the U.S. on orders over $35 and ship internationally to bring our sustainable beauty solutions to a global audience.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
One of the most critical questions a customer can ask is, “How are your ingredients sourced?” Understanding the origin and sustainability of ingredients is essential. At Nuez Acres, we take pride in sourcing our pecans directly from our family farm in Mexico, ensuring they are sustainably harvested with respect for the environment and local communities. We believe that traceability and ethical sourcing are key to creating beauty products that are both high-quality and socially responsible.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part of what we do is witnessing our vision come to life, transforming a simple idea into products that people love and benefit from. It’s incredibly fulfilling to share this journey with our children and inspire them to be part of something meaningful. The most challenging aspect is the time and dedication required to grow as a small business—it can be overwhelming at times, but seeing the positive impact on our customers keeps us motivated.
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
“I like my skincare routine to be like the people in my life—non-toxic.” We aim to keep things simple, just like our ingredients, and focus on what truly matters: creating effective and clean products.
