“A Day In The Life” with actor, writer and podcaster Rachel Cairns

Rachel Cairns wears many hats in the creative industry. She wears them well and often wears several at the same time. She has charmed audiences in plays, told compelling stories on screen and from behind the scenes, and her newest project, Aborsh, has everyone raving about her podcast voice. There is no creative medium Rachel cannot tackle and conquer. In addition to being one of the hardest working people you will meet, she is ambitious, passionate, generous and open. Rachel has the ability to take any project in any form and thoroughly knead it with care and intention into a fully developed package. All while having multiple other projects on the go. Every creative endeavour that crosses paths with Rachel is always for the better. If Rachel is on your creative team, $&*% gets done. She approaches other people’s projects with the same time and attention she would her own and does it with inspiring confidence and grace. You want Rachel on your team and you want to be on her team. Fiercely independent and also incredibly easy to work with, she thrives in all scenarios.

Which ’hood are you in?

When I’m in Vancouver, I always stay with my Mom who lives just off of Commercial Drive. I will get a cappuccino in any shop where old Italian men are watching soccer. My Dad lives in the West End, so I’m pretty spoiled for culinary options.

What do you do?

I’m an actor and a writer, but I also direct audiobooks for Penguin Random House and teach. So, what I do can really depend on the day. Most recently, I’ve added podcaster to that list.

What are you currently working on?

After the success of the first season of Aborsh, my team and I are laying the groundwork for a second season, this time sharing other people’s abortion stories while exploring the many issues and conversations that intersect with and inform reproductive choice.

Where can we find your work?
