Cassidy Anhorn is a stand-up comedian from Vancouver, BC. Her self-proclaimed comedy style focuses on the 2SLGBTW+ community and opens the door to welcoming everyone with a sprinkle of feminism added in. Influenced by Beth Stelling and Weird Al Yankovic, Cassidy graces us with her unique and hilarious whenever on stage performing. We spoke with her to learn more.
How would you describe your comedy style?
My comedy style tends to be quite feminist and I speak on 2SLGBTQ+ experiences but in a way that calls people in rather than out and can be accessible to even the straightest frat guy you know.
Who are some of your influences?
Beth Stelling and, in the most un-ironic way, Weird Al Yankovic.
Who was your favourite comedian growing up?
I was more of an improv nerd growing up and was obsessed with Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles and Wayne Brady on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”. Also Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on SNL’s Weekend Update.
Who is your favourite comedian now?
Beth Stelling, Jon Early, Cat Cohen, Joel Kim Booster, Naomi Ekperigin
What is your pre-show ritual?
I pace around my apartment and say my lines to myself, then I go and I chug SO much water before I go onstage because no one deserves to hear dry mouth on a mic.
What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?
The Rio Theatre in East Van! It’s an iconic venue with the nicest staff and the best popcorn.
What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?
I wrote a period joke that I am really proud of because 1.) It’s funny, and 2.) People complain that female comics only talk about sex and their period…so if all the girlies are doing it, it must be fun.
What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?
In-person! There are so many amazing up-and-coming comedians in Vancouver.

Sex with me is like the Gastown Steam Clock…disappointing.
