Nine years ago, three six-graders ignored all the other trappings of ascendant teenagers and dedicated themselves fully and feverishly to making music. Growing up in the serene town of Vernon, BC, daysormay not only mastered their songwriting and playing skills, but they also became production wunderkinds with the release of their EP, Talk Peace To A Wolf. Now 21 years old, in Vancouver, with a full album in their arsenal, the members of daysormay (the English phonetic of the French “désormais” meaning “from now on”) have the wind at their backs with no intentions of slowing down.
With influences like Phoenix, Glass Animals and Portugal. Singer Aidan Andrews and twin brothers/rhythm section Carson and Nolan Bassett are carving out a unique space in modern alternative music. Now, with the release of their new album, audiences will hear how the band has continued to challenge their craft by incorporating pulsing drums, enchanting synths & guitars, unforgettable melodies and sharp-witted lyrics. The trio demonstrate how there are no limits to their sound.

Favourite musician as a teenager:
Aidan: Probably Cage The Elephant or Rise Against.
Carson: Definitely Rage Against the Machine. I blasted their first album for a solid amount of time
Nolan: Geddy Lee was probably my most consistent favourite from then.
Favourite musician now:
Aidan: Tough to say, I don’t have just one favourite artist now.
Nolan: I have to say the same thing as aidan, I’ve never been a favourites kind of person.
Carson: there are lots of amazing artists right now so tough to pick just one, but johan lenox, quadry, and tyler the creator are some favourites right now
Guilty Pleasure Song:
Aidan: I’m never ashamed of what I listen to. If I like it, I like it.
Nolan: same here.
Carson: never ashamed, so you would definitely catch me listening to folklore.
Live Show Ritual:
Aidan: Usually we all do our own warmups and give each other space, and then right before we go on we’ll chant something from a movie like Spinal Tap or whatever running joke we have going at the time. It’s nothing that dramatic, though I kinda wish it was.
Favourite local artist:
Aidan: There are a lot of artists here that don’t get the credit they deserve for actually doing something different and I’m probably not gonna be able to name them all but: Prado, youngfriend, Boslen, Vot, Ludic, Big Kill, Quarterback, etc.
Nolan: Mine are all the same as Aidan, I’ll also add Debby Friday.
EP or LP?
Aidan: As of right now, LP.
Nolan: short LP, like 7-10 tracks, 25 minutes long
Carson: an LP that flows nicely is always my pick.
Early bird or night owl?
Aidan: I love the morning but I’m always up late, so currently night owl against my will.
Nolan: I think I flip flop between both of them. I just wish I didn’t have to sleep.
Carson: I’m a night owl, i’m definitely envious of morning people but I just have more energy to work on music at night.
Road or studio?
Aidan: I think road right now, I miss being out in the world so much. But I love both equally. They balance each other out.
Nolan: definitely road right now since I miss it so much but it’s truly the best when the two are balanced.
Carson: I love the studio cause it feels like an arcade of sounds and some of the most fun, but i’m really craving live show energy, it’s been a really long time and there is nothing like it.
Any shows or albums coming up?
Aidan: Our first full-length album Just Existing came out in October, we’re super stoked about that, to finally put those songs out was a great feeling. We made a bunch of music videos for it too, if you watch them in chronological order you can actually see the production value improving with each one, which is kind of cool to me.

Carson: I think it’s around west 3rd around the ocean is super peaceful.

Aidan: I don’t think I have one yet, I kinda need to get out more.
Nolan: Mine would probably be Grimston Park in New West, I would go there a lot when we were recording our album just to give my mind a break. Very peaceful.
Favourite Music Venue?
Aidan: The Orpheum is beautiful, also love The Commodore.
Carson: The Rickshaw or The Orpheum
Favourite Vancouver Staple?
Aidan: the bulldogs that drive a mini kid-sized car around Gastown are dope.
