What is your channel called and what is it about?
My channel is Jenn Chan Media – I share playful, vibrant content that highlights Vancouver’s hidden gems, travel adventures, food finds, and everyday moments worth celebrating. With a mix of creativity and humour to keep things real and relatable, my page invites you to explore, discover, and enjoy life along with me
When did you start it? What motivated you at the beginning?
I started it as a photography page, focusing on tourism and night city photos around 2015. With a camera in hand, it allowed me to explore my city again and see it in a different light. I was able to find beauty all around me, and I loved capturing all of that and sharing on my social media page
Who were you inspired by? Any influences?
When I started on social media, influencers weren’t really a thing yet in Vancouver. Of course, I had other photographers who I admired, who inspired me to always search for new perspectives to showcase our city
How would you describe your audience?
My audience is incredibly supportive and engaging. They’re mainly BC-based, with some from the US and around the world. They seem to genuinely love when I share parts of my life on my Instagram.
What is your creative process? Do you have people who work with you?
When I attend an event or visit a restaurant, I like to go in with a feeling in mind—how it makes me feel and how I can honestly share that with my audience. I try to capture the moments that really make an experience special, the little things that stick with me. I usually create alongside my husband, Andrew, who helps with camera shots and bouncing around ideas, and my son, Cypress, often joins in too. Seeing places and experiences through his curious, playful eyes always gives me a fresh perspective and reminds me to slow down and enjoy the moment while sharing it with others.
How do you monetize your content? Do you also have another job?
I monetize my content by partnering with brands, creating UGC, and consulting for companies and startups on social media. I also work full-time at CTV on the morning show as a Production Automation Director. My full-time job gives me a behind-the-scenes TV perspective, and it really influences how I shoot and edit my videos
What is your favourite piece of content you have created?
This is a hard one… I am pretty proud of most of the content I put out there, and the ones I love most include little Cypress and the experiences we get to enjoy together as a family in this capacity. This one memory reel I put together when Cypress turned 1 stands out as it’s such a milestone.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part of what I do is definitely all the experiences, events, and travel I get to enjoy—things I might never have had the chance to do otherwise. It’s really broadened my perspective and added so many memorable moments to my life. The “worst” part? Honestly, it’s made me a little lazy about planning my own outings or deciding where to eat—I’ll admit, I sometimes just wait for content opportunities to tell me where to go next!
What are your future plans for your channel?
My plan is really just to keep doing what I love—sharing my life authentically, spotlighting the places I love, and capturing fun moments with my family. I also want to do more travel and lifestyle content, showing off new spots, experiences, and little adventures that make life exciting. Basically, I want my channel to keep being a place where people can come along for the ride, laugh a little, and maybe find their next favourite place or idea for a family outing.
