Vancouver comedy duo Ryan and Amy bring their self-described “cringe” style comedy to the stage, drawing inspiration from both social media influencers and real-life situations. With backgrounds influenced by comedy icons like Molly Shannon and Pee-wee Herman, the pair has found success with their comedic short “Meeting Baby” and their podcast “Poor Lil’ Thing,” which was recently voted Vancouver’s number one podcast in 2024. Set to perform at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival this February at The Rio Theatre, the duo maintains their hometown connection while expanding their reach, having performed in venues from LA to Vancouver.
How would you describe your comedy style?
Cringe.

We are influenced by real people and real situations. Cringe social media influencers also inspire us for material.
Who was your favourite comedian growing up?
For Amy, Molly Shannon from SNL For Ryan, Peewee Herman.
Who is your favourite comedian now?
For Amy, Kirsten Wiig For Ryan, Maya Rudolph
What is your pre-show ritual?
We always take three deep breaths before running out on stage, remind each other to have fun and Amy asks Ryan how many drinks he’s had.
What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?
LA and Vancouver. LA because it was eventful. You never know what you’re gonna get with the audience. So many eccentric people and the energy there is fun! Vancouver because it’s our hometown and we always feel so loved by it. Best audience in the world!
What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?
We released a comedic short called “Meeting Baby” which was about a woman who reveals the voice she uses to talk to her dog (which is something we’ve all heard, think a voice people use to talk to their baby) while bringing a date back to her apartment. That short did really well for us. It seemed to be really relatable to a lot of people and it was fun to use Amy’s fur niece Abbey who is truly the cutest fur baby of all. RIP Abbey!
What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?
Instagram.
Do you have anything to promote right now?
Our podcast Poor Lil’ Thing was voted number one podcast in Vancouver 2024 (by the georgia straight).

PAY IT FORWARD: Who is another local comic/comedian we should know about?
The Hero Show, which is hosted by comedian Cam Macleod. Hero Show has been around for over 10 years and gives solo sketch comedians opportunities to showcase their work. It’s our favourite show in the city. See it at The China Cloud studios!
