Tragedy Plus Time: Vancouver Comic Brenda Prince

Brenda Prince is a Vancouver-based comedian who first discovered her knack for humour at just five years old, cracking her first joke while walking through Winnipeg’s Vimy Ridge Park with her mom. Decades later, her quick wit and razor-sharp comedic instincts have made her a rising star in the stand-up scene.

Blending dry humour, biting sarcasm, and Indigenous perspectives, Brenda’s comedy is both thought-provoking and effortlessly hilarious. In 2023, she took home the title at the Comedy Feedback Showcase Showdown, marking a major milestone in her career.

Tragedy Plus Time: Vancouver Comic Brenda Price

How would you describe your comedy style?

My comedy style is like my fashion sense. I didn’t plan it… but somehow, it works. Just kidding. I have a blend of dry wit and razor-sharp sarcasm while effortlessly weaving Indigenous perspectives into biting, relatable humour.

Your favourite comedian growing up?

I loved the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts. My favourite was Don Rickles.

Who is your favourite comedian now?

Maria Bamford.

What is your pre-show ritual?

I cannot say as it’s very sacred and involves a sacrifice.

What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?

I don’t have a specific venue, but I like stages with a super bright light pointing at you because it’s like you’re being funny for God.

What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?

I wrote a bit about Indigenous Services; you know the government department, and how the name sounds like an escort agency. I was sitting on a bench one day and a person came running up to me and said, “How much?” No, just kidding. They said, “I keep thinking about your Indigenous Services joke, and I still laugh about it. Thank you.”

What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?

YouTube

Tell us a joke about your city.

I’m from Winnipeg, but now I live in East Van, which means I, too, like to live dangerously.

Do you have anything to promote right now?

I’ll be at the Hot Flash Comedy Show with Syd Bosel at the Surrey Arts Centre, Friday, March 14th, 2025.

Where can we follow you?

@bprince1999

PAY IT FORWARD: Who is another local comic/comedian we should know about?

Jessica Joelle Pigeau. Hilarious. Makes me LOL. @sexylittlefatboy
