Rain City Dogs is a Vancouver business that offers dog walking services for all breeds. Their goal is to get to know your pet, their personality and quirks, and their needs. They make sure to create safe, professional, loving and reliable services for all dogs, regardless of their behaviour and backgrounds. We spoke with the Co-Owners of Rain City Dogs, Lucian and Nick, to learn more about them.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Rain City Dogs was founded by Hunter in 2013. With her many years of experience in both dog training and walking, she created a business that stood for leadership, compassion, and integrity. After 8 years of building a loyal clientele and an exceptional reputation within the Vancouver dog community, Hunter followed a lifelong dream of moving to the Sunshine Coast! It was at this time, Hunter decided to entrust her high standards, and knowledge and give Rain City Dogs to Lucian and Nick.
In July 2020, Lucian and Nick officially took responsibility for Rain City Dogs. With their shared knowledge and passion for dogs and their pet parents alike, they continue to uphold the original core values of Rain City Dogs.
Our mission is now to cultivate a community of dog lovers and advocates while providing a safe, reliable service for your pet. We pride ourselves on our dedication to understanding each dog’s individual needs. To us, it’s not simply about taking your dog for a walk; it’s about getting to know and understand his/her unique personality. We are an ALL-BREEDS company serving the Vancouver area. We do our best to work with dogs of all behaviours, backgrounds, and schedules. While we may be a diverse group of humans, we come together with one goal in mind, the happiness of our dogs!
What made you want to do this work?
Lucian has been in the pet industry for almost 20 years from pet stores to the veterinarian industry he has pretty much done it all so why not try dog walking! and Nick has always been an animal enthusiast.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
We wouldn’t say we solved a problem as there have been many other dog walkers that have come before us. But what makes us different is our walk clients. We know them personally and understand their individual needs. they are not numbers or paychecks to us, they are family.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
We serve most Vancouver neighbourhoods and we serve a great diversity of clients who want to just give their pets extra fun while they are busy!
How does your business make money? How does it work?
We primarily get our income from the group and private walks in the Vancouver area. We have set prices for each individual service.
Where in Vancouver can we find your profession?
We don’t have a brick-and-mortar location, but you can find us anywhere in Vancouver that is dog-friendly and off-leash-approved areas!
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
The best thing you can ask a dog walker is what their background is. How long have they been walking dogs? Do they have insurance just in case something happens?
Dog walking and Dog training are unregulated industries. so make sure they have the experience that you feel comfortable with!
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The absolute best part is the joy you get from watching a dog be themselves and have fun. The worst part is the negativity you receive from the public that doesn’t or won’t understand dogs or their importance to us as humans.
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
Haha, the best joke would be something along the lines of how much poop we deal with on a daily basis.
What are your social media channels?
PAY IT FORWARD: What is another Vancouver business that you love?
We absolutely adore all dog walkers in Vancouver, Down Low Chicken Shack, Rackets and Runners and True Carnivores!
