LOA SKIN is a conscious beauty brand that is focused on inclusivity, animal welfare, environmental protection and sciences-based formulas. With over 400 reviews and four different uses, it’s no wonder their Botanical Beauty Elixir is a big favourite. Also, you’ll notice that on the LOA SKIN website, they list all the ingredients for their formulas, allowing their customers to really understand what they will be using on their skin. We spoke with Tyler Yang, one of the Co-Founders of LOA Skin, to learn more about them!
What is your business called and what does it do?
LOA SKIN — we’re a botanically-obsessed skincare company. Our mission is to empower people from all walks of life to overcome their skin adversity. We create house formulas with unique botanicals at the forefront of everything we do to deliver effective skin solutions.
What made you want to do this work?
My co-founder, Spencer Angeltvedt, and I both struggled with our skin adversity. I had horrible cystic acne all over my face that followed me well into my twenties. Spencer had eczema on his hands and something called Cheilitis on his lips that would cause them to crack and bleed constantly. We wanted to create skin solutions for ourselves at first, but once we create an efficacious product that friends and family were asking for more of — we knew we had something special.
What problem did you want to solve with the business? Who are your clientele/demographics?
Our primary customer is someone who feels as if they’ve tried it all and they’re left frustrated that their skin will ever improve. We look to create skin solutions for conditions like acne, eczema and other inflammatory skin conditions. We don’t claim to create a cure but instead work on improving overall skin health which can exasperate many of these issues to maintain symptoms as much as possible.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
We offer all our skincare products on our online store and through our incredible retail partners locally: Formula Fig, Nature’s Fare, and so many more.
Where in Vancouver can we find your profession?
We are based out of the neighbourhood of Kitsilano where we make all our house formulas out of our manufacturing space. Vancouver represents.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
What makes you different from all the thousands of other skincare brands out there? It is an overwhelming landscape of products for consumers and we wanted to make that simple with our minimal product line that aims to optimize skin health vs. temporary short-term solutions. Every ingredient is carefully selected for our formulas not because they’re trending or we are confident they will sell, but instead because there is scientific data proving their efficacy of them for the skin. Our motto is “efficacy first, and customer loyalty will follow.”
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part of what we do is seeing the difference we can make not only in people’s skin health but their self-confidence and overall well-being. The worst and best part of our industry is you’re dealing with humans that are frustrated and have tried everything under the sun. They are rightly skeptical and it takes having an empathetic approach and explaining the science to help folks understand why our products may be worth trying for them.
