What is your business called and what does it do?
Freesia Soap Company creates luxurious natural handcrafted soap bars for face and body. My inspiration comes from nature and flowers and my desire to connect. I chose the name ‘Freesia’ as it’s a flower and means trust and friendship. My goal is to be a trusted supplier and friend to my community.
What made you want to do this work?
I started making cold-processed soap for my family and friends back in 2015 as I suffered from eczema and couldn’t find a product that was agreeable to my skin. So, I learned how to make soap; friends loved getting my handcrafted soaps as gifts. Then in late 2020, after having breast cancer, I decided to pursue it more fully as a business, and I love what I do.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
While soap is a wash-on-wash-off product, we all use it regularly and often. I wanted to create a soap for hands, face and body that was gentle on the skin and be used by everyone but that would also be luxurious and skin-nourishing.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Truthfully everyone! I have young, old, him, her, they, them and everyone purchasing my soap and loving it.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
Curious question. Through the sales of my soap I generate revenue with which to operate my business.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
While I operate my business in East Vancouver, I can be found online for sales and contact and currently in retailers in both Vancouver and Terrace.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
Consumers should be aware of the soap ingredients, the size of the bar (not all bars are the same size for the same price) and if the vendor makes it themselves (some import).
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The ability to create a product that customers enjoy using and buying for their friends and family is the best part.
The worst part is being a solopreneur where you do it all from end to end – the fun bits and the less than fun bits.
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
Not sure there is one but most soapers begin in a similar fashion – either making for friends and family and/or the need to find the soap that meets their needs.
