“A Day in the Life” with: Vancouver-based Visual Artist Tiffany Blaise

Tiffany Blaise is a Vancouver-based Canadian contemporary landscape painter of Chinese and French descent, whose artistic practice centers on capturing the atmospheric and emotive essence of coastal landscapes across the West Coast and beyond. Her mixed-media artworks evoke a powerful connection to place, blending the ephemeral qualities of light, weather, and terrain with a bold, expressionistic approach. She dabbled in product design and interior design before turning to painting, which was a childhood dream of hers. After several years of painting after workdays or weekends, she decided to take the leap into becoming a full-time artist.

Blaise holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Concordia University, where she concentrated on art and design. Following her graduation in 2012, her work has been exhibited in cities including Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Melbourne, with notable showcases at The Telus World of Science and the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair. Blaise’s paintings are held in both private and public collections internationally. Her artistic journey has been further enriched by international artist residencies including the Eramboo Artist Environment in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park in New South Wales, Australia and The Pouch Cove Residency in Newfoundland, Canada.

In addition to her artistic practice, Blaise has been the recipient of several grants aimed at fostering community engagement in the arts within Vancouver. Her mission as an artist is to inspire connection with nature, through encouraging others to surround themselves with emotive artwork that resonates with their sense of place and encourages a deep appreciation and reverence for the natural world.

Which neighbourhood are you in?

My art studio is in the Chinatown neighbourhood of Vancouver. I love working in this historic area of the city because of all of the unique heritage buildings, fabulous cafes, independent boutiques, and delicious restaurants. It’s nice to be in a bustling part of town that is so close to downtown and Gastown, so I always feel connected to the pulse of the city.

It’s such a diverse and charming place to hang out with an eclectic mix of people. There are lots of creatives who live and work in the area, as well as new unique businesses opening up shop so I’m always discovering new gems in the neighborhood.

What do you do?

My style is expressionistic, with bold gestural brushstrokes and vibrant washes of colour. Many of my paintings begin from a photo of a destination I’ve visited around BC that I felt a strong connection to (such as Tofino or a spot along the Sea to Sky highway). My work is largely inspired by coastal landscapes and dramatic skies. I love capturing movement in nature, whether that is crashing waves or windswept clouds.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on a series of mountain and moonlight paintings to be unveiled in March. This collection was inspired by a road trip to Seton Portage in BC where I drove past towering mountains emerging out of mist and clouds in Pemberton and Lillooet. The majestic quality of mountains and sparkling moonlight is a subject I keep returning to, but this will be the first time creating a collection of these works

Where can we find your work?

You can see my artwork in the following BC galleries: Tofino Gallery of Contemporary Art and Ian Tan Gallery. For those not in the Vancouver area, I am represented globally by the McQueen Agency. You can see my upcoming solo exhibition “Eternal Horizons” at Gibsons Public Art Gallery in December 2025 and you can find most of my paintings on my website and on Instagram or by contacting me at info@tiffanyblaise.com to arrange a studio visit!
