“A Day in the Life” with: Vancouver Visual Artist Linda Suffidy

I have been lucky to have known Linda Suffidy for over 12 years and witnessed her relentless drive and devotion to her art. I’ve also had the privilege of calling her my best friend.

Her pieces invite you to pause and lose yourself in the experience. Linda’s dedication shows in every detail. She isn’t content to create and replicate; Linda constantly pushes herself to grow, refine, and elevate her craft. She is always learning; her pursuit of exploration means she’s continuously integrating new techniques, like flameworking glass, which only deepens the tactile, immersive experience. Her work is distinctively hers—unique, evolving, and connected to her vision.

Linda’s mixed media pieces often feature elements like ginkgo leaves and ferns, grounding her work in nature. The lines she carves into sintra board carry viewers on a visual journey that feels both deliberate and meditative. She is selective about the materials incorporated into the work. They have to be touched by personal connection. I’ve contributed many of my fused glass pieces, which have found their way into her paintings.

When I got into rock hunting, Linda was not only curious about it but shared in the thrill of my finds, especially fossils. Her enthusiasm for fossils is just one example of her genuine interest and joy in experiencing the natural world and translating these through her art.

I found a treasure during a hike at Banff National Park. It seems incredible that this mountain was underwater aeons ago.

The decorative arts are pure visual pleasure and a source of inspiration. I encountered this ceramic during a trip to Mexico City.

Which neighbourhood are you in?

Mount Pleasant

What do you do?

I’m a mixed-media visual artist. My work explores the theme of timelessness. I’m fascinated by the glimpses of ancient history that are found in the present day. Fossils, artifacts, and other curiosities are referenced in my tactile work that straddles the space between two and three dimensions.

What are you currently working on?

I’m working on a series of textural paintings of imagined geology that consider the continuum of deep time.

Where can we find your work?

My Instagram page has news about upcoming exhibitions along with images of my current work.
