Sophia Colpitts (b. 2008), currently a grade 12 student at Lord Byng Secondary School in Vancouver, is a singer, composer, arranger, and pianist. She is a proud member of the Vancouver Youth Choir! She has twice been a member of the BCMEA Honour Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the BC Youth Choir. In September, Sophia will be attending the University of British Columbia to pursue a double major in Voice and Music Composition.
As of 2026, Sophia’s works have been performed by the Vancouver Chamber Choir, the Vancouver Cantata Singers, the Nabi Vocal Ensemble, the Orpheus Male Voice Choir, the Egret Choir, and the Treble, Junior, and Senior divisions of the Vancouver Youth Choir. Her composition “Chance” won the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s 25/26 Young Composers’ Competition. In her spare time, she plays melodica in the busking trio The Fiddle Gerbils of Minecraft.

I’m a day jay. I’m usually up around 7:30 am to get to my first class of the day, Social Justice 12!
Road or studio?
I have loved being on the road with the Vancouver Youth Choir on tours to Edmonton, Newfoundland, Korea, and Ireland!
Any shows or albums coming up?
The Vancouver Youth Choir will present Village at the Orpheum Theatre on May 24th, 2026, at 6:30 pm! It’s VYC’s final show of the season, and it will be our largest concert ever. Our program will reflect the diversity of our community and will feature the premiere of four new works. You will have the pleasure of seeing 600 young people sing vibrant, high-quality choral music from all over the world!
