Homegrown Business: Caly Luo and Stephanie Lu of Oh My Land Club

In this interview, Caly Luo and Stephanie Lu, co-founders of Oh My Land Club (OMLC), share insights into their family-friendly business. As mothers, they were inspired to create a safe, engaging indoor playground tailored to younger children, addressing the gap in facilities for toddlers and babies. Their open floor plan allows parents to monitor and engage with their kids easily.

Oh My Land Club

What is your business called, and what does it do?

Our business is called Oh My Land Club (OMLC). It’s an indoor playground designed for children, providing a safe, fun, and engaging space for kids to explore, play, and learn.

What made you want to do this work?

As mothers ourselves—Caly with three kids and Stephanie with two—we wanted to create a space where our own children, as well as others, could play freely, explore, and enjoy themselves in a safe environment. Our goal was to build a place where parents could feel comfortable and children could have endless fun.

What problem did you want to solve with the business?

We noticed that many indoor playgrounds cater primarily to older children, often overlooking the needs of babies and toddlers. Additionally, these spaces aren’t always parent-friendly, making it difficult for parents to follow and engage with their children. We wanted to create a playground that was better suited for younger kids, with an open floor plan that allows parents to easily monitor and participate in their child’s experience.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

Our primary clientele consists of families with children under 10 years old.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

We generate revenue through admission fees for access to our indoor playground. In addition, we offer party room rentals for birthdays and special events.

Where in the city can we find your business?

We are conveniently located in the heart of the Tri-Cities, nestled between Coquitlam Centre and Port Coquitlam City Centre.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask when comparing services?

A great question would be: “What additional activities do you offer besides the play area?”

Our answer: In addition to the playground, we have activity leaders who organize a range of fun activities such as arts & crafts, sing-alongs, dancing, running games, scavenger hunts, and more to keep the kids engaged.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

The best part is seeing the joy on the children’s faces as they make friends, have fun, and grow at our club. The most challenging part is when a child doesn’t want to leave and ends up in tears, especially at closing time!

What is your favourite joke about your profession?

Since we see a spike in visitors on rainy days, we often joke about being a “seasonal business.” When the sun’s out, we jokingly say, “Oh no, the weather is terrible today!” because it means fewer visitors.
